Chidi Odinkalu shares fake video of ‘Kabila’ dancing

Former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof Chidi Odinkalu, on Friday shared a fake video purportedly of former President Joseph Kabila of the Democratic Republic of the Congo dancing.

In a Twitter post on Friday, the 51-year-old described the potbellied man in the video as Kabila showing “with some special moves that there’s bountiful life after the Presidency.”

The visiting professor at the Harvard Law School then added: “Hopefully his peers hanging onto the rafters of their respective countries with their fingernails can take a look a re-think.”

Some Twitter users have, however, pointed out that the man in the video is not Kabila who ruled his country from 2001 to 2019.

A lady with the username @SarahBireete had posted the same video with a message similar to Odinkalu’s on Twitter on September 1.

Kabila is presently in Zimbabwe for the funeral of former President Robert Mugabe.

He arrived the country on Friday and does not look like the dancing man in Odinkalu’s tweet.

An advocate of a free press, Odinkalu spoke on the challenges posed by fake news as the keynote speaker at a conference by the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) in Lagos last year.

He advised the journalists not to fail prey to politicians and other elements who may want to use them to spread hate and stoke tension.
