Buhari abandoned me after I spent billions on his election – Saraki

Bukola Saraki

Senate President Bukola Saraki has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of abandoning him after he spent billions on his election as president in 2015.

Saraki made the disclosure at a meeting with some of his supporters.

The audio recording of the meeting done in Yoruba was posted on Twitter by Buhari supporter, Kayode Ogundamisi.

Saraki could be heard telling his supporters that he funded Buhari’s election with between N200 million and N400 million in 30 states of the Federation.

He said the only states he did not fund were those of the South West.

Saraki claimed he invested in the Buhari presidency because he was interested in the youth, who he accused the president of marginalising.

“Out of 36 states in Nigeria, I funded Buhari campaign in 30 States.

“Some states, I paid N200 million, some N300 million, some N400 million.

“The only states I did not fund are south-west states.

“Many times I will be calling my banks to send money to fund elections across Nigeria for Buhari,” he said.

Saraki continued that he was disappointed that Buhari did not reward his contributions with appointments after the election.

“My thinking was that when we get elected, the next thing is that we will get majority of our people appointments.

“In fact, I had already promised some of you here that you will either be MD (Managing Director) of federal agencies, either road maintenance, NIPDA (inaudible) even Nigerian Ports Authority, SUBEB and so on and so forth.

“I know if I put someone amongst you from Kwara even in the smallest federal agencies, the contract you will sign out, N1 million, N2 million.

“But for the first time that I have been in politics, even speaker can’t appoint a cleaner.”
