APC PGF DG Salihu Lukman resigns over convention controversy

Salihu Lukman, director-general of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, an umbrella body of governors in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has resigned.

His resignation, it was learnt, is connected to the controversy surrounding the delay in convening the party’s national convention.

Lukman had been vocal about his stance on the national convention, warning the caretaker committee against further delay.

APC governors met on Sunday to discuss the convention and Lukman’s fate.

After the meeting, Jigawa State Governor Atiku Bagudu told reporters that the party’s convention would be held in February.

*We discussed our upcoming convention which you may recall I had cause to address the press after we visited President Buhari in November 2021 where the president and the party agreed that the convention would take place in February,” he said.

Bagudu added that the caretaker committee would announce the exact date for the convention.

The main opposition party PDP had held its convention last year.
