Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), Ali Nuhu, has highlighted efforts to bring Nigeria’s creative industry closer to international partners following a visit by a European Union delegation to Kano.
The actor and filmmaker shared clips from the visit on Instagram on Thursday, saying the goal was to ensure that all parts of the country benefit from the growth and visibility of Nigeria’s creative sector.
He wrote, “Ensuring that every part of the country gets to experience the richness of our creative industry remains the goal.
“As part of the EU Ambassador’s visit to Kano, I had the opportunity to encourage the delegation to go beyond formal engagements and include a stop on set so they could experience Kannywood in its most authentic form.
“At the mini film village at ARTV Kano, the EU team met with industry stakeholders, observed ongoing production processes, and engaged directly with creatives shaping the Northern Nigerian film space. It was a simple but powerful exchange that gave context to everything we often only discuss in policy rooms.
“A sincere thank you to the EU Ambassador and delegation for the openness, curiosity, and respect shown throughout the visit.”
The visit formed part of a broader engagement by European Union Heads of Mission and development partners in Kano State. The delegation, led by EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, met with state officials and stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen partnerships and public diplomacy in Northern Nigeria.
Kannywood, the Hausa language film industry based in Kano, remains one of Nigeria’s largest film production hubs and plays a significant role in promoting culture and storytelling across the region.
Nuhu, who was appointed managing director of the Nigerian Film Corporation in 2024, has consistently advocated the use of film as a tool for cultural exchange, economic growth and international collaboration.
