Woman, 29, bags 6 months community service for blowing nose on neighbour

Court of law

A Chief Magistrate Court in Mapo, Ibadan, has sentenced one Shukura Afolabi, 29, to six months’ community service for blowing the mucus in her nose on her co-tenant during a misunderstanding.

Delivering judgment, the chief magistrate O.O. Latunji convicted and sentenced Afolabi after the police prosecution had presented evidence against her.

Latunji stated that the police had proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the convict committed the crime.

She therefore sentenced Afolabi to six months of community service, warning that she would be made to face stiffer punishment if she were brought back to the court for any form of crime again.

Earlier, the prosecution, Insp. Oluseyi Akinola told the court that the convict committed the crime on October 10, 2024, at around Better Life Bakery, Molete-Fele, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Akinola said that the convict was arrested after the complainant, Mrs. Anifat Isika, her co-tenant, reported to the police that Afolabi blew the mucus in her nose on her body during a misunderstanding.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened the provision of section 354 of the Criminal Code Cap.38 vol. ii Law of Oyo State 2000.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the convict had pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of assault.
