Female soldier who accepted corper’s marriage proposal will be penalised — Army

A female soldier who accepted marriage proposal from a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Yikpata, Kwara has been detained for violating military laws, the army said on Sunday.

The soldier was seen in viral videos some days ago accepting a ring from an NYSC member on his knees.

The lovebirds later locked themselves in a warm embrace and kissed to the applause of other corps members.

Spokesman of the Nigerian Army Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu said the female officer violated military laws by getting involved in a public display of amorous relationship with a paramilitary trainee.

Nwachukwu noted that the female soldier’s action amounted to taking advantage of her trainee, noting that the public would have been outraged and accused the army of coercion had a male soldier proposed to a female corps member.

Some of the rules the soldier violated, according to him, are fraternisation while on official duty at the NYSC camp. That is, indulging in an amorous relationship with a trainee; indulging in romance while in uniform among others.

The army spokesman, however, declined comments on the likely punishment the female soldier might get.
