UNIZIK postpones award for Sanusi

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi Lamido Sanusi

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State (UNIZIK) has postponed the award of an honorary doctorate degree earlier approved for the dethroned Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi.

The varsity’s vice-chancellor, Prof Charles Esimone, announced the deferment of the award on Thursday during the 14th convocation ceremonies of the university.

Esimone said the former monarch would be presented the award in the future.

“The award will be conferred on the former emir in our future convocation ceremonies,” he said.

“The Senate of the university duly approved the award to former Emir Muhammadu Sanusi.”

The university had planned to honour Sanusi with a doctorate degree in risk management.

The former Central Bank of Nigeria governor was, however, dethroned on Monday and sent on exile to Nasarawa where he has been since Wednesday.

UNIZIK presented honourary degrees to the chairman, Innoson Motors, Innocent Chukwuma; and Daniel Chukwudolue of Dozie Oil.
