Sanusi sues IGP, DSS boss over confinement

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi Lamido Sanusi

The deposed Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, has filed a legal suit against the Inspector General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) over his post-dethronement detention and confinement.

Sanusi’s lawyers led by Lateef Fagbemi filed the suit on Thursday before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Also named as respondents in the suit are the Attorney-General of Kano State and the Attorney-General of the Federation.

Sanusi asked the court for an interim order releasing him “from the detention and or confinement of the respondents and restoring the applicant’s rights to human dignity, personal liberty, freedom of association and movement in Nigeria, (apart from Kano State) pending the hearing and determination of the applicant’s originating summons.”

Sanusi was dethroned on Monday by Kano State Government. He has been in detention since then in Awe, a town in Nasarawa State.
