Unemployed, 28, arraigned for alleged assault, causing grievous hurt

A 28-year old unemployed man, Godfrey John, on Tuesday appeared before a Kabusa Grade I Area Court, Abuja, charged with assault and causing grievous hurt to a trader.


Godfrey was charged with two counts of assault without provocation and causing grievous hurt.

The defendant, who resides at Navy Land, close to Abacha Barracks, was alleged to have gravely injured a trader, Linda Okoli of Nnaka Close, Wuse Zone 3.
The Prosecutor, Mahmud Lawal, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 17.


Lawal informed the court that the complainant reported the case at Asokoro Police Station.


He said the complainant reported that she was boarding a vehicle when John rushed towards her and pushed her down from the vehicle.


According to the prosecutor, as a result of the attack, the complainant sustained various injuries on her legs and hands.

He further told the court that Okoli was still undergoing treatment at Asokoro General Hospital.


Lawal said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 246 and 265 of the Penal Code.


The Judge, Malam Aliyu Kagarko, ordered that the defendant should be remanded in Keffi Prison pending hearing of the bail application.


Kagarko adjourned the case until Oct. 24 for hearing of the bail application .
