Two persons have been feared dead in a fire incident which occurred on Thursday at Sawmill/Onipepeye area along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

It was gathered that a petrol tanker fully loaded with about 33,000 litres lost control before ramming into vehicles and going up in flames.

A source at the scene said the fuel tanker driver, who was coming from Lagos, tried to overtake a commercial Nissan Micra taxi but lost control and fell.

“We called the fire service personnel to come and rescue the situation before the fire started but it took them more than good forty minutes before they arrived, and by the time they got here, the fire had already burned two people till death,” the source said.

Oyo police spokesman, Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the incident and that “two people were burnt to death, as a result of the inferno, alongside with three vehicles and one motorcycle.”
