Twitter mocks Trump after meeting Pope

Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump met Pope Francis at the Vatican on Wednesday and Twitter couldn’t help but notice the gloomy look on the Pontiff’s face.

A particular picture of the His Holiness looking miserable standing next to America’s number one citizen went viral with social media users guessing what was on the 80-year-old’s mind.

The usually cheerful Pope is a critic of Trump on issues such as immigration and climate change.

It was much different from the joviality witnessed when immediate past US President Barack Obama visited the Vatican.

Reuters news agency reported though that though the Pope “smiled faintly” as he greeted Trump, he was “not as gregarious as he sometimes is with visiting heads of state.”

Joining the two leaders in the picture were wife Trump’s wife, Melania; his daughter, Ivanka, and son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Melania and Ivanka were dressed in black, as women taking part in papal audiences traditionally do, and the first lady also wore a mantilla, the traditional head covering for women.

When introduced to the Melania, Francis asked “What do you give him to eat?” She answered, “Potica!” a national Slovenian sweet.

As the two men parted, Trump said “Thank you. Thank you. I won’t forget what you said.” Francis wished the president a “Buena suerte,” or “Good luck!”

Below are some of the reactions as Twitter mocks Trump:

Melania and Ivanka were not spared either.
