Tobi Amusan arrives in Benin for Nigeria Athletics Championships

Athlete Tobi Amusan arrived in Benin City, Edo State on Tuesday for the Nigeria Athletics Championships 2023.

This is coming on the heels of her first Diamond League win of the season in the women’s 100m hurdles on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium in Stockholm, Sweden. She ran in 12.52 seconds.

The Nigeria Athletics Championships will take place at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin. 

The best of Nigeria’s athletes, including Ese Brume, are expected to compete at the championship.

This is the first time Amusan will be competing in Nigeria since breaking the women’s 100m hurdles record at the World Athletic Championship in July 2022 in Eugene, Oregon, US.

The 26-year-old became the fastest woman in 100m hurdles by running 12:12s. She is the first Nigerian athlete to hold a world record.

Oregon 2022 was Amusan’s third appearance at the World Championships after making her debut in London in 2017 where she made the semi-finals before finishing fourth in the final in Doha in 2019. She also placed fourth at the Tokyo Olympics.
