President Bola Tinubu has approved a reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), removing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development Ahmed Dangiwa.

The decision was contained in a memo signed on Tuesday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume and issued through the Office of the SGF spokesperson Yomi Odunuga.

According to the memo, Taiwo Oyedele has been appointed as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

He was previously Minister of State in the ministry.

Muttaqha Darma has been named ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

The memo directed the outgoing ministers to complete handover processes to their successors or supervising officials.

It stated that all handover activities should end on or before 23 April.

SGF Akume said the changes were made to improve coordination and delivery across government economic programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians,” he said.

He said the president acted under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Akume also conveyed the president’s appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and said the process of cabinet changes would continue when necessary.

“The president thanked the outgoing ministers for their services to the nation while wishing them the best in all their future endeavours.

“The president equally assured all cabinet members that the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous,” he concluded.
