President Bola Tinubu has congratulated social media influencer Reno Omokri on his 50th birthday celebrated on January 22.

In a statement on Sunday night released by his spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu commended Mr Omokri “for his dutifulness in providing constructive opinions on national issues, regardless of his political disposition.”

Omokri, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, was the special assistant on digital media to former President Goodluck Jonathan from 2011 to 2015.

“President Tinubu wishes Mr. Omokri many more years in good health as he continues to contribute his quota to national development,” the statement by Mr Ngelale added.

Omokri campaigned for his party’s candidate at the presidential election last year, Atiku Abubakar, and referred to Tinubu severally as a “former drug lord”.

He however began to warm up to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after Tinubu won the election.

While Atiku’s camp went to court with the claim that Tinubu forged his diploma certificate from Chicago State University (CSU) in the United States, Omokri insisted he visited the university and could verify that the president’s certificate was genuine.

The former presidential media aide also blamed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, Peter Obi, as the reason Atiku did not win the election.
