President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s minister of foreign affairs following the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday in a statement by the president’s special adviser on information and strategy Bayo Onanuga.
Mr Tuggar resigned from office to pursue the Bauchi State governorship election in 2027.
Mrs Odumegwu-Ojukwu had served as minister of state for foreign affairs before her new appointment.
President Tinubu also nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as minister of state for foreign affairs, subject to Senate confirmation.
Mr Enikanolaiye was serving as senior special assistant to the president on foreign affairs and international relations before the nomination.
According to the presidency, he previously served as permanent secretary in the ministry of foreign affairs and held diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London and New Delhi.
The statement said the appointments are part of efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy and strengthen international partnerships.
Tinubu urged the appointees to promote Nigeria’s national interest, advance economic diplomacy, support regional stability and protect the welfare of Nigerians at home and abroad.
