TikToker known as Love has been invited by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) over allegations of cyberstalking, fraud and mischief following a viral video about the shelf life of a loaf of bread.
The development was made public by social media influencer Lucky Udu, who shared a screenshot of the creator’s TikTok message and spoke on the issue in a video posted on Instagram on Sunday.
In the video, Udu said the creator contacted him after receiving the invitation.
“How many of you saw the video of the bread lady I posted? So she reached out to me that she has just been invited to the Nigeria Police Force headquarters for cyberstalking, mischief,” he said.
He added that he advised her to stay in touch as people follow the case.
“I have told this lady to keep in touch with me because a lot of Nigerians want to see how it goes,” he said.
In a message shared online, the TikTok user, identified by the handle @lovedooshimaa, confirmed the invitation.
“As at this moment I have received an invitation to police HQ to come for an interview because I have been reported for cyberstalking, fraud, mischief and so on,” she wrote.
The issue began after the creator posted a video claiming that a loaf of bread remained fresh for about two months after purchase.
The video gained attention online and led to reactions about food safety.
Following the reactions, bakery brand Bon Bread responded, saying the claim affected its business and that it tried to contact the creator.
The company’s founder Maria Umeagwukadilo said she wanted to understand where the bread was bought and how it lasted that long.
“I made a call to her because I wanted to understand where she got the bread from and how it could have lasted two months, as she claimed,” she said.
She said the company later took legal steps after attempts to reach the creator were not successful. She added that the company stands by its products.
“We believe in freedom of speech and respect everyone’s right to express opinions. However, we stand firmly behind the safety and quality of our product,” she said.
As of the time of filing this report, the NPF has not stated on the invitation.
