Teenage girl raped to death in Enugu

Unknown persons have allegedly raped a teenage girl, Ngozi Eze, to death at Imufu community, Enugu Ezike, Igbo-Eze North LGA of Enugu State, The Nation reports.

Ms Eze had on Tuesday attended preparatory lessons for the forthcoming Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) only to never return home on that fateful day.

Her body was found on Wednesday in a bush behind Community Secondary School, Imufu, several hours after she was declared missing by her family.

Her books and writing materials, including handkerchief and shreds of her clothing were scattered around the bush.

The victim’s father, Jonathan Eze, told a wailing crowd that he learnt that somebody had taken his child away when he went to the Township School, Ogrute, Enugu Ezike, to get his daughter that Tuesday evening.

“I left Township School, Ogrute and went home straight, hoping to see her but she wasn’t there. We waited till 8 pm and started looking for her.

“She was not the type that normally socialise. We did not sleep as her telephone number was switched off. It was only this morning (Wednesday) that we got information that her corpse was found here.

“She was to enter the university last year when she completed her secondary education but we prevailed on her to exercise patience for her elder brother to graduate, because we cannot afford to train two persons in the university.

“Since then, she has been working hard to gain admission this year, but this is what has now happened,” he said.

Catholic priest in the area, Rev. Fr Johnson Nwanonenyi, prayed over the corpse before it was taken away by policemen for investigation.

Police believe that the teenager must have been strangled by her attackers from the marks on her neck and ankles.
