Actor and filmmaker Adeshina Okiki, popularly known as Janmole, has been laid to rest in his hometown of Okeho, Oyo State.
News of his death began circulating on Monday night and was later confirmed by the President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr Latin.
Mr Latin said the actor died from injuries sustained in a road accident.
In line with Islamic rites, Janmole was buried on Tuesday in Okeho.
Videos shared online showed the moment his remains arrived in a white Hummer bus before being taken into a compound where family members, colleagues and sympathisers had gathered for the burial.
The footage captured emotional scenes as mourners paid their final respects. Some were seen in tears while others stood quietly in grief.
Women were heard calling out his name, “Okiki,” while some mourners rolled on the ground, overwhelmed by the loss. Family members, fellow actors and fans watched as the burial rites were performed.
Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues in the Yoruba movie industry since news of his death broke.
Actress Regina Chukwu, who recently worked with him, recalled their final meeting on a movie set and expressed shock over his passing.
Janmole was known for his roles in Yoruba films including Agunbaniro, Iyawo Asante and Ogbon Inu. He was also active on TikTok, where he shared comedy and entertainment content with his followers.
His death came nearly four years after he survived a road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in 2022. At the time, the vehicle he was travelling in caught fire, but he escaped and later expressed gratitude for surviving the incident.
