Tayo Ayinde denies appointment as Sanwo-Olu’s chief of staff

Former chairman of Bababjide Sanwo-Olu Inauguration Committee, Tayo Ayinde, has debunked rumours in the media of his appointment as Chief of Staff to new Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Ayinde, who was chief security detail of former governor and now national leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, in a statement on Thursday said he decided to address the reports to ‘set the record straight.’

“Let me state emphatically that His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has not made any cabinet appointment. The only official assignment undertaken so far by him was taking of the oath of office and inspection of the Guard of Honour.

“Therefore, the news flying around is a lie and can only be described as beer parlour journalism,” Ayinde said in a statement.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I served as the Director General of the Independent Campaign Group and later as chairman of the inauguration committee, which remains my last assignment to date.

“Finally, I wish to implore media professionals, particularly those in online journalism to kindly verify information before publishing so as not to cause embarrassment for the subject of their news stories.”

However, sources in the camp of the governor say that Sanwo-Olu faces a hard task in making appointments as several names have been jumping in the media.

It is also believed that people loyal to Ayinde might have engineered the false report of his appointment to put him in consideration for the position of chief of staff.
