Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has inaugurated three committees to oversee the implementation of the school feeding programme and the state of emergency declared in the state’s education sector.
A third committee, the state of emergency council, will supervise the other two while ensuring proper policy implementation.
A statement issued today by Tambuwal’s spokesman, Imam Imam, quoted the governor as saying the committees have important roles to play since the major policy of his administration is based on revamping the education sector.
The governor said the success or failure of his administration should be gauged by what he will achieve in the sector.
“To say the least, the story of education sector in this state is that of dilapidated school structures, inadequate schools and classrooms, lack of teaching and learning materials, low morale of teachers and educational administrators as well as lukewarm attitude of communities,” Tambuwal said.
The committees, according to him, will develop realistic work-plan and budget based on sound technical managerial expertise, monitor implementation of approved plans with due diligence and efficiency and also develop modalities for rationalising, upgrading and streamlining education sector infrastructure, manpower and community development.
While the Governor heads the state of emergency council, Professor Risqua Arabu Shehu will head the technical committee and Alhaji Mainassara Ahmed, the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, chairs the school feeding committee.
The committees have six weeks to present interim reports.
