Former Super Eagles captain and coach Sunday Oliseh has described Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Lesotho on Thursday as a “national embarrassment”.

The Super Eagles welcomed Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State in the first 2026 World Cup qualifiers for both sides.

Reacting to the scoreline, Oliseh said in a post on X on Friday that the home-based players should be able to defeat Lesotho, talk more of the Super Eagles which is dominated by foreign-based players.

“Haba This nightmare go ever end? Woke up to this shocker this morning. Our homebased suppose dey beat Lesotho na! dem even first us score!!!! The painful part be say, no consequences for these national embarrassments sef!” he wrote.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the last edition of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, after being beaten by Ghana in the last qualification round but have qualified for the competition on six occasions.

Conversely, the Crocodiles are yet to qualify for any edition of the FIFA World Cup

Both sides have met four times in the past and Nigeria have won on all occasions, conceding just two goals and scoring 10.
