Sundiata Post launches intelligence unit to analyse insecurity

Sundiata Post Intelligence Unit

Sundiata Post Media Ltd has announced the launch of the Sundiata Post Intelligence Unit (SPIU) to focus on security analysis.

The company disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, April 23, in Abuja.

According to the statement, the unit will apply a framework known as “The Insecurity Triad” to examine links between kidnapping, banditry and terrorism in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin.

The framework was developed by Max Amuchie through his column, The Sunday Stew.

Mr Amuchie said the new unit would focus on explaining patterns behind insecurity.

“For too long, our response to insecurity has been reactive because we viewed kidnapping, banditry and terrorism as separate issues. The framework shows they are connected,” he said.

He added that the unit would move beyond daily reports to explain causes and possible developments.

The company said the SPIU will track early signs of security threats, analyse patterns, and produce reports such as briefings and alerts. It will also provide projections on possible developments and aim to improve public understanding of security issues.

The unit’s main publication, the SPIU Security Review, will be released every Friday, starting from April 24.

Sundiata Post said the unit is open to partnerships with organisations in areas such as data sharing and research.

Amuchie said the initiative is not a replacement for security agencies but a system to support public understanding.

“We are not a security agency. We want to build a public system that helps people understand what is happening,” he said.

He added that the unit would focus on clear reporting and avoid exaggeration.

The company also announced that Amuchie will publish a two-part series titled “The Trinity of State Decay in The Sunday Stew”, starting on April 26, with the second part scheduled for May 3.

The statement said the intelligence unit has taken effect and its reports will be included in the organisation’s coverage.
