Suicide: Banky W speaks on woman who jumped into Lagos Lagoon

Singer and actor, Banky W, has reacted to the recent suicide incident that occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

It was reported on Sunday that a lady parked her SUV on the Third Mainland Bridge before jumping into the Lagoon.

Banky W took to Instagram on Monday to react to the news, advising people to reach out to psychiatric centers when they are depressed.

He wrote, “Please reach out and talk to someone. If you’re dealing with depression, it is not ridiculous. It is not something you should be ashamed of.”

“If you feel like you’re done, and you have nothing left to live for, please believe that you are wrong. Please talk to someone. Suicide is not the answer,” he added.

I just heard the heartbreaking news about the young lady who committed suicide by jumping off the 3rd mainland bridge in Lagos… Barely 48 hours after we discussed Anthony Bourdain. This is a list of all the regional psychiatric centres in Nigeria (thanks @mocheddah). Please reach out and talk to someone. If you’re dealing with depression, it is not ridiculous. It is not something you should be ashamed of. If you feel like you’re done, and you have nothing left to live for, please believe that you are wrong.. Please talk to someone. Suicide is not the answer. PS: My *personal* belief is that GOD is the answer. And if you’re in Lagos and willing to try Him, *in addition to getting medical help*, you can go to my church @mytph and talk to someone. Not trying to impose my personal spiritual beliefs on anyone – just sharing what has worked for me.

Nollywood director, Niyi Akinmolayan, recently advocated that people should be free to kill themselves if they believe they are done with life.

The controversial filmmaker and blogger said he does not get emotional about suicide, arguing that not everybody who kills him or herself is sick or depressed.

“Some people just want to leave when they are done,” he wrote, adding “it’s an idea I embrace totally.”

This comes days after CNN presenter and popular chef, Anthony Bourdain, killed himself in France at the age of 61.
