Soludo appoints Bishop Kukah chancellor of Ojukwu University

Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has appointed the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese Matthew Kukah as chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU).

The appointment was announced on Wednesday in a statement by the governor’s press secretary Christian Aburime.

Aburime said Bishop Kukah is expected to use his network to support partnerships for the university and promote leadership values.

He said the appointment reflects the state government’s plan to strengthen the institution’s development and training of students.

“The appointment of Bishop Kukah as the chancellor of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University is expected to provide leveraging of his global network to foster international partnerships, inspire ethical leadership in the university, and signal a commitment to producing well-rounded graduates,” the statement said.

Kukah studied philosophy and theology at St Augustine Major Seminary in Jos. He also obtained a diploma in religious studies from the University of Ibadan.

He earned a bachelor of divinity from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome, a master’s degree in peace studies from the University of Bradford and a PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, in 1990.

He also attended programmes at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom and Harvard University in the United States.

Bishop Kukah is the founder of the Kukah Centre, where he works on research and policy issues related to interfaith relations.
