Siasia slams Dream Team display

Nigeria U23 coach, Samson Siasia, has criticised his wards’ performance in the 2-2 draw  with Egypt at the 2015 CAF U23 AFCON in Senegal on Wednesday.

For the second consecutive game, the Dream Team failed to maintain their lead – conceding twice in the second half in both games.

Just like the first game against Mali, the Eagles dominated play in the first half but fell to sleep in the second and were lucky to pick a draw.

Siasia who watched on helplessly from the sideline as his team were being ripped apart by the Egyptians, conceded his side need to improve in order to progress in the tournament.

The former international foresees a tough battle against Algeria who currently top Group B and wants his wards to rise to the occasion.

“We did not play in the second half and we cannot continue like this if we want to go to the Olympics,” he told cafonline.com.

“We have to be careful. We tend to lose concentration in the second half and I have to fix it. It was the case in the first game against Mali and the same thing happened against Egypt.

“It is no longer funny. It will be a tough battle against Algeria, and we have to be careful about the North African sides, they attack left and right.”

Nigeria play Algeria in the final group game and must avoid defeat to qualify for the semi-finals of the competition.

Three teams qualify automatically to the Olympics, while the forth will go through a play-off.
