Seven Nigerian celebs who died in August 2021

With less than three months to the end of the year, August 2021 will go down in history as the month with the most death ever recorded among celebrities.

Qed.ng has curated seven celebrities who have passed on within the month.

First on the list was the general manager and director of corporate affairs and commission Fresh FM, Ado Ekiti, David Ajiboye, who died on Sunday, August 8 in Ibadan. The management of Fresh FM disclosed that he died from COVID-19 complications.

Rich Oganiru, a veteran Nollywood actor reportedly died on Tuesday, August 10 of kidney failure. In 2012, he was arrested for allegedly killing his wife in Abuja following a petition by the family of his wife who claimed he poisoned her. Few weeks before Rich died; he made a video appealing to the public for financial aid.

Another Nollywood actor Stanely Okoro, popularly known as Rabbi allegedly died of food poisoning on Wednesday, August 12. Stanley was well known for his comic roles in movies.

Yusuf Grillo, a contemporary artist known for his inventive works and the prominence of the color blue in many of his paintings. Grillo, famous for his stained glass paintings, died of COVID-19 complications at the age of 80 in the early hours of August 23.

Nollywood actor and Tinsel star Victor Olaotan died on Thursday, August 26 after a prolonged illness caused by a ghastly road accident in 2016. In 2018, Olaotan sought financial aid for medical treatment outside Nigeria to avert the amputation of his legs.

While Nigerians were mourning Victor Olaotan and also paying tribute to veteran actress Rachel Oniga, who died in July, the death of another Nollywood veteran Ifeanyi Dike was announced. The actor reportedly died on Friday, August 27 after a brief illness. He was diagnosed with kidney-related illness a few years ago; he underwent a successful kidney transplant in India. He however became sick again and was placed on life support. Ifeanyi served as the chairman Board of Trustee, Actors Guild of Nigeria.

A day after Dikeh’s death, high-life musician Victor Uwaifo passed on from complications resulting from pneumonia. Until his demise, Nwaifo was also a writer, sculptor, and instrumentalist. He won numerous awards and recognition including the National Merit Honors of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) in 1983.
