Saraki, Sani, others mourn Nigeria’s first female combat helicopter pilot

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Senators Shehu Sani and Ike Ekweremadu have joined millions of Nigerians in mourning the first female combat helicopter pilot of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Tolulope Arotile who died on Tuesday in a road accident.

Saraki said on Twitter on Wednesday that Arotile would be missed.

“Flying Officer Arotile dedicated her life to the service of her nation and in so doing became a role model for millions of Nigerians on breaking glass ceilings. She will be missed.

“I commiserate with @NigAirForce, her family and friends. I pray the Almighty gives them the strength to bear this loss,” he wrote.

Sani also said on Twitter that “Arotile was a shining star who broke barriers and defied conventions.”

Ekweremadu wrote on Twitter that she made history at age 23 and that she “shone brightly in Operation GAMA AIKI against bandits in NC.”
