Sanwo-Olu’s media aide denies assault on governor at Teslim Balogun Stadium

Chief press secretary to Lagos State governor Gboyega Akosile has denied that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was booed while leaving Teslim Balogun Stadium on Tuesday.

The video where some persons booed a convoy has been shared multiple times on social media.

The video shows several cars leaving the stadium where the Super Eagles of Nigeria clashed with Lesotho in an AFCON qualifier.

Some youth stood at the gate chanting “Ole” a Yoruba word for thief and also threw empty plastic bottles at the cars.

A former presidential aide Reno Omokri also shared the video with the caption, “Lagosians Disgrace @JideSanwoolu at Teslim Balogun Stadium.”

But Sanwo-Olu’s aide countered, saying it could not have been the governor because Mr Sanwo-Olu was in the stadium till late at night.

“Governor @jidesanwoolu was in the stadium till very dark yesterday. No incident as being spread by @renoomokri and his co-travellers happened during Mr. Governor’s departure from the Teslim Balogun stadium. Let’s stamp out #fakenews from our system,” he tweeted.

Nigeria defeated Lesotho 3-0 in the game.

Sanwo-Olu had expressed excitement on social media following the game which was the Super Eagles’ first competitive game played in Lagos in 20 years.
