Several dignitaries on Thursday gathered at the Muson Centre in Lagos for the burial ceremony of Akintola Williams.

The accounting guru died at 104 on September 11.

Among those present at the ceremony are Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; and former governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun.

Also present are businessman Aliko Dangote; Ifeanyi Adefarasin, wife of the senior pastor of House on the Rock Church Paul Adefarasin; and founder of Zenith Bank, Jim Ovia.

The likes of the Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria, Oliver Abba; Archbishop of Lagos, Isaac Olawuyi; Bishop Steven Adegbite, Lagos State CAN Chairman, Very Revd Sola Kuyebi; Presbyter Wesley Cathedral Olowogbowo, were also at the event.

The wake was held on Wednesday at the same venue.

Williams was also a strong advocate for developing the accounting profession in Nigeria. He was a founding member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and was president from 1963 to 1965. He was also a member of the National Board of Accountants and Auditors.

The deceased received many awards and honours, including the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM). He was also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
