Peter Obi congratulates Prof Hippolite Amadi on winning $100,000 NLNG’s Nigeria Prize for Science

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February poll Peter Obi has congratulated professor of medical engineering and technology Hippolite Amadi on winning the 2023 edition of The Nigeria Prize for Science.

The prize sponsored by the Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) carries a reward of $100,000.

Amadi’s novel scientific work helps keep newborn babies alive and reduce infant mortality.

The innovations comprise a non-invasive neonatal ventilator, an oxygen delivery blender system, and an oxygen splitter system, all powered by solar energy.

Celebrating him, Mr Obi wrote on Thursday on social media: “Prof Amadi’s winning innovation themed, ‘Innovation for Enhancement of Healthcare Therapy,’ according to reports, comprises of Non-invasive Neonatal Ventilator (NIV); an Oxygen Delivery Blender System, and an Oxygen Splitter System, all powered by solar energy and aimed at reducing infant mortality by advancing Neonatal care in Nigeria and beyond. Such laudable innovations are highly encouraged for the growth and development of our health sector.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier congratulated Amadi.

On September 26, the US Mission in Nigeria wrote on X about Amadi, “Congratulations to Nigerian Prof. Hippolite Amadi for winning the $100,000 Nigerian Prize for Science 2023 for pioneering neonatal care innovations! We recognize his groundbreaking design of solar-powered respiratory equipment, to help save newborn lives in Nigeria and beyond.”
