The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its displeasure at the new dates announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the general elections.
INEC had in the early hours of Saturday announced a shift in dates for the elections by one week.
National chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, in reaction alleged that it was a move to help President Muhammadu Buhari remain in power.
Mr Secondus accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to rig the polls.
He also described the commission as a failure and immediately called for the resignation of its chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu.
The PDP leader warned that the party will not accept “anything short of a well organised electoral process devoid of manipulation, harassment and intimidation of voters and the opposition particularly members of the PDP.”
He added, “Having failed in all their nefarious options to enable them cling on to power, the APC and the INEC came up with the idea of shifting election, an action that is dangerous to our democracy and is therefore unacceptable.”
Secondus also drew the attention of stakeholders to Buhari’s statement on CNN that nobody can unseat him from office as an indication of what he wanted to do.
