Two days after attending the wedding between the children of Governors Abiola Ajimobi and Abdullahi Ganduje in Kano, President Muhammadu Buhari has finally begun a visit to some troubled states.

Buhari had come under heavy criticism for not visiting Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara, Rivers and others were communal clashes and terrorist attacks have claimed tens of lives.

Coming a few days after 110 schoolgirls were kidnapped in Dapchi, Yobe State, the President’s trip to Kano was roundly condemned as insensitive and irresponsible.

A statement on Monday by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, however, said Buhari’s immediate response to the killings was to task the armed forces and other security agencies to compile comprehensive reports on the various incidents.

“Having received and studied the Reports, the President has decided to undertake an on the spot assessment of the various occurrences and to meet and console the communities affected.

“From today, March 5, he will visit Taraba, and subsequently Benue, Yobe, Zamfara and Rivers States,” Mr Adesina said.

According to the presidential aide, “Buhari has been receiving daily briefings, and has been in constant touch with the Governors, and has been updated with situation reports.”

The President, he said, “calls on all Nigerians especially those in the affected areas to cooperate fully with the Security Agencies to enable them curb the spate of crimes, bring those responsible to justice and prevent further occurrences.”
