Omisore disappoints me – Fani-Kayode

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has expressed disappointment at the decision of Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Iyiola Omisore, to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the rerun Osun State governorship election.

Fani-Kayode is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His party’s candidate, Ademola Adeleke, had polled 254,698 votes in the governorship election held on Saturday to defeat Gboyega Oyetola of the APC, who polled 254,345 votes.

Omisore came third with 128,049 votes.

The election was, however, declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to irregularities and cancellation of 3,498 votes.

A rerun was subsequently fixed for Thursday in areas where Omisore has comparative advantage.

Fani-Kayode had earlier expressed optimism that his fellow Ife man would work for the PDP.

“Iyiola Omisore will not let us down. He is my cousin and I have spoken to him. We are together,” the former minister wrote in a Twitter post on Monday.

After meeting with chieftains of both PDP and APC, Omisore announced on Wednesday that his party would support the APC.

That infuriated Fani-Kayode, who was quick to launch an attack on the former deputy governor of Osun State.

He accused him of collecting money from APC chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, to betray the Ife people.
