Oluwo of Iwo announces wedding to Emir of Kano’s niece

Oluwo of Iwo Land Oba Abdul-Rasheed Akanbi

The Oluwo of Iwo Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi on Tuesday announced his upcoming wedding to Princess Firdauz Abdullahi of the royal family in Kano.

The wedding is billed to hold on March 19, 2022, at the residence of the Madakin of Kano.

A reception “strictly for ladies” will hold on the same day at The Gidan Rumfa, the palace of the Emir of Kano, according to the wedding invitation shared on Instagram by the monarch.

The Oluwo had divorced his Jamaican wife Chanel Chin in 2019. The union which produced a son named Oduduwa, ended due to irreconcilable differences.

The Oluwo’s wife-to-be is 27 years old and is also Ado Bayero’s granddaughter and the Emir of Kano’s niece, according to palace sources.

In February, a letter surfaced on social media, suggesting that the Oluwo requested N20 million from Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola to finance his wedding since it was a “marriage of two important institutions in Nigeria.”

The monarch and his palace disowned the letter while the state government also denied receiving such correspondence.
