Oluwo may not attend own wedding – Spokesman

Oluwo of Iwo Land Oba Abdul-Rasheed Akanbi

Oluwo of Iwo Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi may not attend his wedding to Princess Firdauz Abdullahi of the royal family in Kano on March 19, 2022, his spokesman Alli Ibrahim said on Wednesday.

The wedding is billed to hold at the residence of the Madakin of Kano.

A reception “strictly for ladies” will hold on the same day at The Gidan Rumfa, the palace of the Emir of Kano.

The Oluwo’s wife-to-be is 27 years old and is also Ado Bayero’s granddaughter and the Emir of Kano’s niece.

Ibrahim told PUNCH that because of his position as a paramount ruler, the Oluwo might not be in Kano for the wedding.

“Baba is not likely to be there (in Kano) as a paramount ruler. They will bring the wife to him in Iwo. There is no cause for alarm,” he stated.

Oba Akanbi had divorced his Jamaican wife Chanel Chin in 2019. The union which produced a son named Oduduwa ended due to irreconcilable differences.

In February, a letter surfaced on social media, suggesting that the Oluwo requested N20 million from Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola to finance his wedding since it was a “marriage of two important institutions in Nigeria.”

The monarch and his palace disowned the letter while the state government also denied receiving such correspondence.
