Okada riders attack Abuja estate over hit and run motorist

Violence erupted on Sunday at Global Estate in the Lokogoma area of Abuja as scores of commercial motorcyclists aka Okada riders swam in to avenge their colleagues.

The incident happened after a motorist hit two Okada riders and ran into the estate for safety.

It was alleged that the Okada riders burnt two buildings in the estate.

“The motorist who is not even a resident of our estate ran into the estate because he noticed a police post in front of the estate,” estate manager Adebisi Adelowo told PUNCH.

The police said it moved in and restored normalcy at the estate.

FCT police spokesperson Josephine Adeh said in a statement that the commissioner of police Babaji Sunday, was on ground with heavy deployment of operatives to restore normalcy in the area.

“It is imperative to equally state that contrary to information filtering about, no house was burnt,” she said.

Adeh pledged the commitment of the command to ensure safety of lives and property within the FCT.

She enjoined the public to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment and molestation of any kind from any quarters.
