The Nigeria AI Film Festival Nigeria AI Film Festival founded by Obinna Okerekeocha will return in September at Alliance Française Lagos Alliance Française Lagos, continuing its focus on the growing role of artificial intelligence in filmmaking across Africa.
Following its debut edition, the festival has become a meeting point for filmmakers, technologists and creatives interested in how AI is influencing storytelling and production in the film industry.
In its first edition held last year, the festival received over 400 submissions. It also featured curated screenings, panel discussions and the launch of its AI Academy, designed to give creatives practical tools for AI driven production.
The director of communications and panel host, Chidera “Odera Collins” Okonji, described the experience as a necessary disruption, noting how it challenged familiar approaches to storytelling and opened up new creative possibilities.
Organisers said the 2026 edition will build on the momentum of the previous year and place greater focus on experimentation, collaboration and discussions around the ethical use of AI in film.
“The goal is simple: to keep pushing what’s possible while supporting the people actually doing the work. The festival will feature screenings of selected AI driven films, industry panels and conversations, hands on workshops and training sessions, and networking opportunities across creative and tech communities,” Chidera Okonji said.
Submissions for the 2026 edition opened on May 1 and will close on July 31.
