Obiano’s deputy dumps APGA for APC

Anambra State Deputy Governor Nkem Okeke has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

He was presented by the APC caretaker chairman Mai Buni and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma on Wednesday to President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Villa, Abuja.

The defection comes ahead of the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State. Senator Andy Uba is APC’s candidate for the polls.

Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano had met Mr Buhari last week over the security crisis in the state.

After the meeting, Mr Obiano said the president was not in support of the threat by attorney general of the federation Abubakar Malami that the Federal Government could impose a state of emergency in Anambra if security crisis persist and threaten the electoral process.

But the minister of information and culture Lai Mohammed countered Obiano, saying Malami’s statement represents the Federal Government’s position on the matter.
