Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has praised Prof.  Mark Nwagwu for his literary prowess in his latest work titled Time Came Upon Me.

Nwagwu, wrote the book of 94 poems in memory of his wife, Prof. Helen Nwagwu, both retirees of University of Ibadan (UI).

Obasanjo, who spoke at the book launch on Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, described the late Helen Nwagwu as his close confidant.

“The book launch is part of the celebration of life. Mark, I know you have not only lost your wife but you have lost a friend and a confidant.

“The consolation is that she is resting in the bosom of our Lord; may her gentle soul to continue to rest in peace,” Obasanjo said.

The book’s reviewer, Prof. Remi Raji-Oyelade, also commended Nwagwu for being the only poet to have successfully published four collections of poems all dedicated to his wife.

Nwagwu in his response said the publication was to preserve his wife’s memory after she passed on in 2018.

“I thought there is no better time to present this book than now at the one year anniversary of my dear wife,” Nwagwu said.
