There are fears of doom for the opposition who have been hit with the news that the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN) have opted to leave the newly conceived coalition, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).

The GDPN left the coalition on Wednesday after declaring that it was not in support of the CUPP’s choice of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar as consensus candidate.

CUPP is the umbrella body of about 45 major opposition parties in the country.

GDPN presidential candidate Davidson Akhimien in a statement said the party was not aware nor in support of the CUPP decision to endorse Atiku.

Nigerians have now taken to Twitter to express their fears for the opposition as the 2019 elections draw closer.
