Nigerians have been attacked in Togo over a dispute between a yet-to-be-named Nigerian man and his Togolese lover.

According to a tweet which was replied on Friday by the Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Togolese woman was said to have hired hoodlums to deal with the man.

Unable to get hold of him, the hoodlums were said to have attacked Nigerians living in the area.

The video shared by the Twitter user revealed about five men with blood-stained shirts who appeared to have been beaten mercilessly.

The Twitter user identified as @GhenhisKhan alleged that the men were burnt with tyres in the presence of police officers.

Mrs Dabiri-Erewa in response said she contacted the Togolese ambassador to Nigeria on Thursday over the incident.

She assured that the hoodlums would be arrested and charged, promising to ‘continue to monitor developments’.

“I took this up with the Togolese Amb yesterday. The persons will be arrested and charged, he so assured. We will continue to monitor developments,” she tweeted on Friday.

Dabiri-Erewa had on Thursday visited Ghana High Commission in Nigeria to protest the maltreatment of Nigerians in the neighbouring state.
