New Yobe governor marries predecessor’s daughter as third wife

Mala Buni of Yobe State

Yobe State Governor, Mala Buni, who was sworn in on Wednesday, has taken a third wife.

Mr Buni on Thursday married Fatima Gaidam, daughter of his predecessor, Ibrahim Gaidam.

It is reported that the new wife of the governor is currently studying in Saudi Arabia.

It is not known if she would be made the first lady of the state, however, the marriage could be a move to strengthen political ties.

The low key marriage was solemnised at Gaidam’s residence at Sabon Fegi area Damaturu, the state capital, early Thursday.

An ally of the governor was quoted saying that the marriage was held secretly to avoid public criticism.

Islamic scholar, Abubakar Adam, was said to have performed the marriage rites.

The scholar called on the couple to fear God in all their dealings in order to have a good family and live a fulfilling life.
