Actress Moyo Lawal has denied claims that she ordered the arrest of a social media user for trolling her over a viral image.
The controversy began days after Moyo addressed online criticism about her appearance, particularly allegations that she had bleached her skin. She shared AI generated images of herself with a darker complexion and questioned if her critics were now satisfied. She added that she was being bullied for something she believes many people are guilty of.
A Twitter user identified as ScoobyDoe had mocked her over the image, using it to advise the public.
In a later post, the user claimed he was arrested and detained at Area F Police Command in Ikeja following what he described as a harmless exchange with the actress. He alleged that the divisional police officer invited him, after which he was locked up for over a week until his lawyer intervened.
Reacting, Moyo dismissed the allegation, stating that she had no involvement in any arrest and would not deny anyone their fundamental rights over an opinion on an AI generated image.
She also suggested that if she ever intended to take such action, it would not be over a trivial matter, while expressing frustration over what she described as recurring false narratives about her online.
She wrote, “DISCLAIMER
I did not arrest any rat .. rest assured , that if I do arrest any rat .. the animal or animals will rot away in prison for the rest of their lives .
“Oppression is not my line of defense, why would I take away A RATsfundamental human right because of something as frivolous as an opinion over an Ai generated April fool joke image representing me falsely for laughs ?? .
“If I do want to arrest someone, I kinda feel like we all know whom, I would have arrested a long time ago . I am just tired of this whole narrative… O ti su mi , every week some NEW FALSE narrative 😭why the OBSESSION… please let me breath “Let the poor breath”
Let’s remember to be asking for facts ,when we see all this foolish RUMORS from rats .This social media funds legit be turning humans to animals.”
There has been no official confirmation from the police to support the claim that the user was arrested on Moyo’s orders.
