Solomon Adeola, also known as Yayi, has emerged consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State for the 2027 election.
The announcement was made by Governor Dapo Abiodun during a stakeholders and strategic caucus meeting of the party on Monday. Party leaders unanimously endorsed Adeola at the meeting.
Mr Abiodun expressed confidence in Adeola’s ability to succeed him, describing him as a leader with strong intellectual capacity.
Mr Adeola, who represented Ogun West in the 10th Senate, attended the meeting alongside former governors Segun Osoba, Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun. Other party leaders present included Kola Bajomo, Salisu Shuaib, Gbenga Kaka and Gbenga Obadara.
The adoption followed consultations by the governor with other aspirants from Ogun West, including Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Abiodun Akinlade, who agreed to step down for Adeola.
“It gives me great pleasure and on behalf of all of you to congratulate Senator Adeola as our consensus and unanimously selected an elected governorship candidate for the year 2027,” Abiodun declared.
In his acceptance speech, Adeola said he would not disappoint the party and the state.
He expressed gratitude to the party leadership for adopting him as the consensus candidate and acknowledged the sacrifices made by other aspirants.
“I recognise the sacrifices made by my colleagues to make this possible. I believe in unity and oneness for our dear state, including Ogun West. Ogun State is central to Nigeria’s development, and I am committed to sustaining and improving on its achievements.
“I assure you that I will not let you down. I will maintain the unity, peace, and progress achieved in recent years and work to take the state to greater heights. I will ensure that every member of our party remains united, regardless of political differences. Together, we are one indivisible family,” he said.
