Niger State Police Command has arrested a woman, Hafsat Aliyu, and her son, Babangida Usman, for allegedly beating Ali Haruna to death, Northern City News reports.

It was gathered that Usman and his 50–year-old mother attacked the deceased during a disagreement on April 13 behind Shango Primary School in Chanchaga local government area of the state.

Usman was said to have told the police that his father had a habit of assaulting his mother.

“My mother was not safe with my father because of his temperament. Every day, there would be issues that would escalate to a fight. I never knew he would die, I was only protecting my mother,” Usman said.

Mr Haruna died on the way to Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Specialist Hospital from the injuries inflicted on him.

Niger police spokesperson, Mohammad Abubakar, said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.
