Actress Mide Martins has described Saro, the character played my movie star Kunle Remi in Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo.

Set in the 17th century Oyo kingdom, Anikulapo is the story of Saro, a travelling cloth weaver, who was beaten to death for having an affair with the Alaafin’s youngest wife Queen Arolake played by Bimbo Ademoye.

A bird brought him back to life, leaving behind a gourd with the power to raise the dead. Arolake who attacked the bird after it had saved Saro, picked the gourd and nursed Saro back to health.

Fortune smiled on them when it was discovered Saro could raise the dead with the gourd which Arolake gave to him.

Greed and lust, however, caught up with the clothe weaver who raped his maidservant and have children by her.

Arolake – who is unable to bear children from her days in the palace – found herself relegated as Saro’s lust got the best of him.

Some of those who have seen the film believe Arolake let herself become a victim and allowed Saro to betray her by giving him the gourd with which he brought the dead back to life.

Weighing in on the matter in an Instagram post, Mide Martins also described Saro as a greedy person.

“Saro is olojukokoro jor,” she wrote in Yoruba.
