Governor Peter Mbah has congratulated Rangers International FC after the club won its ninth league title and a second under his administration.
Rangers secured the 2025 to 2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title on Sunday after defeating Ikorodu City FC 2-1 at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos.
The result took the team to 68 points, finishing one point ahead of Rivers United, who beat Katsina United 3-0 in Port Harcourt.
In a post shared on Instagram, Mbah said the victory reflected the resilience and spirit of the people of Enugu State.
“Today, Rangers International F.C. have made Ndi Enugu proud and reminded the nation of the strength, resilience, and winning spirit of our people.
“Congratulations to the players, coaches, management, and supporters.
Mbah, in a separate statement, also praised the team’s performance throughout the season, describing the title as well-earned.
“On behalf of the government and people of Enugu State, I convey our profound congratulations on your deserved and hard-fought ninth league title.
“You have not only reclaimed the title won in the 2023/2024 season, but restored Enugu’s glory as a hub of champions.
“You have reenacted the heroics of Rangers of old and walked the path of our revered legends,” he said.
He said the achievement reflects the state government’s investment in Rangers and in sports development.
The governor added that the win would serve as encouragement ahead of the 27th National Sports Festival, which Enugu is scheduled to host in November.
