Man on the run after breaking 2-month-old baby’s arm for disturbing his sleep

Baby with broken arm in Imo

Confidence Amatobi, father of a two-month-old baby boy, has reportedly taken to his heels after allegedly breaking the baby’s arm in Imo State.

Mr Amatobi had allegedly flogged the baby Miracle with a tool for disturbing his sleep.

The alleged assault led to the amputation of the fractured arm at the pediatrics ward of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owerri.

The National Human Right Commission (NHRC) and the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Imo State chapter have called on the Imo State Government and the Nigeria Police Force to immediately arrest and prosecute Amatobi for allegedly assaulting the baby.

Miracle’s mother, Favour Chikwe, 19, also called for the arrest of Amatobi.

Imo State chairperson of NAWOJ, Dorothy Nnaji, told reporters after visiting the amputated boy at the FMC Owerri that the injury inflicted by the 31-year-old father, a native of Amurie in Isu Local Government Area of the state, led to the amputation of the boy’s right hand.

“He used a plastic hanger on the baby, simply because he was crying,” Nnaji said.

According to her, when Amatobi noticed the baby’s hand was broken, he used a wooden elastic band to tie the baby’s hand, adding that he locked both baby and mother for two days to prevent her from seeking help.

Nnaji further said that Amatobi left the house with the baby’s mother’s phone.
