Man City reject, Olarewaju Kayode, nominated best in Ukraine

Super Eagles forward, Olarewaju Kayode, has been shortlisted for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Player of the Month.

Kayode, 24, is on loan in Ukraine from Premier League champions Manchester City.

The ex-Flying Eagles star spent the first stanza of the season at Spanish side, Girona, where he made minimal impact.

However, he seems to have found his footing in Kharkiv under Paulo Fonseca.

Kayode has started the club’s last three games, scoring on two occasions.

His performance in the slim 1-0 victory over  Mariupol last week Friday earned him plaudits as he was awarded the Man of the Match.

Now the Nigerian’s overall input has alerted the club who nominated him for the Player of the Month award.

He would have to overcome Goncalves dos Santos, Taison Barcelos and Marlos Romero for the honour.

He will hope to win his first silverware with the club when they take on title rivals Dynamo Kiev in the final of of the Ukraine Cup on May 9 at the Dnipro Arena.

Shakhtar also sit at the top of the Ukrainian league with 69 points, three more than Kiev with three games remaining before the end of the campaign.

Paulo Fonseca’s men will face fourth placed Zorya in their next league game on Saturday.
