Kwara government denies state polytechnic funded Saraki’s campaigns

Bukola Saraki

Kwara state government has denied rumours that the state-owned polytechnic in Ilorin funded Senate President Bukola Saraki’s political campaigns.

It also said that contrary to rumours, Saraki was not involved in the planned appointment of a new rector for the polytechnic and the vice chancellor for Kwara State University (KWASU).

Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Utaz Alikinla, said only Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed had authority to make such appointments, adding that the recruitment of new heads of the institutions would follow due process such as advertisement of vacancies three months to tenure expiration.

This would be followed by a selection process after which the governor will approve the appointment on the Governing Council’s recommendation.

Recruitment for a new rector for Kwarapoly began on Monday with the advertisement of the vacancy in national newspapers.

The commissioner also denied claims that a former chairman of Kwarapoly’s governing council contributed funds to Saraki’s electioneering campaign in 2011.
